Meetings

The club currently meets on Mondays at Upton Community Centre, St Dunstans Church,  between 6.30pm and 9pm. We split our year into three seasons each of at least 14 weeks and all members attend the majority of meetings. BraveArt members are offered a programme of topics which is designed to take away the “What should I do next?” and encourage creativity. The programme is not compulsory, if somebody doesn’t want to follow it they can choose their own topic.

We have members who enjoy working in all media from pencils to watercolour, acrylics to oils and pastels to line and wash. There is always somebody experimenting with a new technique. We provide support and encouragement for each other, and we also enjoy a good chat about life in general and art specifically.

Though we are not a teaching society, help and advice is readily available from the group’s founder (a retired Art Teacher) and the more experienced artists present, and if you want to know what people think of your work, other members are always ready with an honest opinion.

In August our regular evening meetings are not in the Community Centre. We meet instead at preassigned locations within East Dorset to do some plein-air work.

We have had at least one demonstration by a visiting artist each term. We plan to do this again next year. Demonstrations are open to anyone who wants to attend. A small charge is levied for non-members.

Exhibitions are held every year and all members are encouraged to take part. It is an opportunity for people to sell their work, but the main reason for our exhibitions is to show off what our members have achieved.
